Drontal for Puppies and Dogs
Worms are a significant problem for dogs and puppies. If left untreated, worms can cause some series issues. These include lack of energy, dull coat, pot bellied appearance, change in appetite, weight loss, vomiting, diarrhoea, blood in stools. If a large enough infestation occurs, especially in puppies, it can even cause death. Some worms are also transmissible to humans. This is known as a Zoonotic disease.
There are four gastrointestinal worms that affect dogs; tape worm, round worm, hook and whip worm. Drontal kills them all, protecting not only your pet but your entire family from potential worm infestation.
Hookworms can infect people and cause anything from a skin rash to breathing complications.
Tapeworms mainly infect children causing a disease called Visceral Larva Migrans or toxocariasis. As well as vision problems it can affect other organs such as liver or lungs.
When It comes to worm treatments, not all are created equal. Some don’t contain praziquantel the product that kills tape worm. And other products contain cheaper, or older less effective ingredients that don’t kill as many worms in your pet.
Puppies start their worming program from two weeks of age and Drontal is safe to use in such a young dog. Drontal comes in tablet and oral liquid forms, so all dog sizes can be treated. Drontal can also safety be combined with flea and heartworm prevention.
Puppies should be wormed at 2,4,6,8,10,12 weeks of age, then every three months for life. Pets should be weighed before treatment and the dose calculated up to the nearest kilogram in small dogs, or 5kgs in larger dogs.
